Our First Baby!
It was a cold night in China.. but the moon was out and most of the children at the Home of Hope were asleep or getting ready to go to sleep. There was a knock on our door. Opening it, we came face to face with two very large Chinese policemen. With them was a little old lady who seemed very excited. She was holding a small bundle of rags in her arms. We wondered what was going to happen next.
As it turned out the old lady had found a little baby boy (the doctors tell us he is about three weeks old) thrown away at the courthouse in Gongyi. The police didn’t know what to do with this little guy so they brought him to us. For the longest time we have been asking God to send us these little ones with no one to care for them and no one to love them. Now it has happened!
We immediately took the baby to the local Women’s and Children’s hospital. They gave him a clean bill of health with the exception of a major cleft lip and palate. Of course we are not completely ignorant about these things, since we have little Henry “Long Qiang” with us now who has had his surgery and is doing real well.
The people at the Women’s and Children’s hospital told us that they are not that familiar with the condition and suggested we take him to the hospital where Henry had his surgery. We did, with the same results. He will have to have surgery at about three years old but other than that they said his health is good. God is so good to bring this little guy into the home.
We made him a make-shift crib and he did real well in our bedroom the first night. We sent an emergency appeal to Mom for pampers and baby clothes. We got some “sort of” throw-away diapers from the hospital but they don’t hold liquid at all. We haven’t picked a name for him but we are leaning toward Moses. If you have any suggestions, feel free to let us know. We will keep you posted on the developments of this little guy.
All of the other children are doing great. June is really starting to like school and is learning to read and write. I am giving piano lessons to several of the older children and we are fixing to start a children’s choir. We thank you for your continued support and prayers.
