“Joseph” Li Shi Yan

Several times since the government gave us permission to take Joseph in, his father has come to take him away. (of course to help him steal again. The first time we asked Joseph if he wanted to go and he started crying and yelling saying he did not ever want to leave the Home of Hope.

  • How Arrived: We were called by one of our neighboring mountain villages with a story there was a little boy living under one of the vegetable display cases in the village outdoor market. They said he had been there for several weeks. We went to check it out and found Joseph. After checking with the local government we found out father is in and out of prison, mother has long abandoned him. His father gets out of prison, uses Joseph to crawl through small places to gain access and then Joseph unlocks the door so the father can get in to steal. Most of the time the father is in prison.
  • Condition on Arrival: Good Health but undernourished
  • Present Health: Good but he does have Hepatitis
  • Personality: Reserved, shy, becoming more open every day
  • Education: Doesn’t do too well in school
