PingYu Construction Starts!
We just wanted to let our friends and supporters know that remodeling construction has started on the Home of Hope #3 in PingYu, China.
The first thing we are doing is to add a brick and window hallway in the front of the building so the rooms won’t be so cold in the winter and hot in the summer. This will work as an integrated “storm window” system to keep the individual dorm rooms, dining hall, kitchen, study halls, rec room and play room at a more acceptable temperature.
The startup is just as exciting today as it was ten years ago when we first started on the Gongyi Home of Hope.
Starting in the bottom right corner above, moving clockwise are various snap shots showing the delivery of some of the materials, the brick knee wall being built (there will be a continuous line of windows set on top of the knee wall going to the underside of the roof above), more material being delivered, work in progress, another shot of the knee wall, more materials and a closeup of the knee wall tying into an existing column.
We have had a lot of help this go round from our older children who came into the Home of Hope organization in the first group of kids way back in 2000.
David Zhang (above right) will be working as translator and assistant with Ben Godard (above center) who with his wife Michelle will be the administrators of the PingYu Home of Hope.
Above left is Hank Cao who has now graduated from college and is both working at the Gongyi Home of Hope office and also studying for his TOFEL exam preparing to go to the States for additional study. Hank has been doing a lot of “behind the scenes” work for the PingYu startup and David is now in PingYu, living in one of the dorm rooms and keeping tabs on the construction work as it progresses. David stays in touch with Nathan and Ben Godard throughout each day as situations develop.
We are currently scheduled to bring our first children into the PingYu Home of Hope on February 19th which is the exact tenth year anniversary date of the opening of the first Home of Hope. So exciting!
