The Hour Glass of Time

Screen Shot 2016-05-15 at 9.01.19 AM
May…. what can one say about May? We keep turning over and over that hour glass of time but the sand keeps moving… and in analogy, the children keep growing and getting older and more mature.

It’s getting warmer now… the children are into all sorts of things when they are out of school….. flying kites, climbing trees, begging Ye Ye to take them fishing… (which we haven’t done yet this year… but we will)…. racing to the dining room when the dinner bell rings so they can get the tables and chairs outside before the food is set on the table because they love to eat outdoors… Screen Shot 2016-05-15 at 9.01.34 AM

There is this one item that grows in the trees (after all these years I still don’t know what it is called… I just know that it tastes good) and it appears suddenly in the Spring and the cooks sends the kids out to get as much off the trees as they can….. so some Screen Shot 2016-05-15 at 9.01.52 AMlate afternoons you can see the Home of Hope children climbing trees taking down this leafy item which reminds one of the scene in “The Sound of Music” when Screen Shot 2016-05-15 at 9.20.50 AMthe Von Trop children were up in the trees and their father brought his fiancé home (much to his chagrin..)

Of course the older children have their own ideas of what “fun times” should be during their free time and this month some went to XuZhou to visit Bob and Cindy Sayre. Screen Shot 2016-05-15 at 9.21.24 AM
They had a great time while there which one always has when they visit the Sayres.

This time it was Rena (left), Mosie (center) and Vincent (right) (group shot above right) who got in the picture… actually, Rena and Vincent both go to University in XuZhou while Mosie was there on an errand for the Gongyi Home of Hope. Regardless, the children are always happy to see each other again.

Seth, Yang Xiao Ke (on the boat above), one of the original Home of Hope children who came to us in 2000 at the age of eight, also went along with the kids to XuZhou. Seth is now back at the Home of Hope and is working full time as our maintenance man and one of the Home of Hope drivers.

Meanwhile, Joey who was in the first group of children to come to the Home of Hope and who is now our main cook (he is studying for his Chef’s license) took some of the children out for a cook out and a day at the river. From what we were told they had a great time.
